What makes a good notification sound
- Short: 1 to 3 seconds is ideal. FoneVibe allows up to 15 seconds.
- Instant: it should start at full volume. Fade in is off by default for notifications.
- Distinct: a sound you won't confuse with other phones around you.
- Loud enough: turn on Even volume, and Louder for quiet clips.
How to make one
- Choose your audio file.
- Tap the 5s chip or type a custom length like 2, then drag the selection onto the sound you want.
- Press play to check it. Use the ±0.1 s buttons to cut it exactly at the start of the sound.
- Download and set it as your notification sound. The steps appear right after.
Android and iPhone
On Android, you can set the sound for all notifications, or for one app such as Messages. See notification sounds on Android.
On iPhone, download with the iPhone tab. After adding it with Use as Ringtone, custom tones are usually listed in Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Text Tone too. iPhone tones are limited to 29 seconds.
Questions
Can I use it for WhatsApp?
On Android, yes. See our WhatsApp notification sound guide.
Why can't I pick a longer length?
Notification sounds are capped at 15 seconds so they don't play over and over. For a longer sound, use the Ringtone or Alarm option.
