How to make an alarm tone
- Choose a song or recording.
- Pick the part you want to wake up to. Alarm tones can be up to 60 seconds and loop until you stop them.
- Keep Fade in on: the alarm starts quietly and reaches full volume over 3 seconds.
- Download, then open your Clock app, tap an alarm and choose the file as its sound.
Choosing a sound that gets you up
- A section that builds up works better than one that starts at full blast.
- Avoid songs you play all day: your brain learns to ignore them.
- If you sleep through alarms, turn on Louder and pick a bright, busy part of the song.
Setting it on your phone
Android: open the Clock app, tap the alarm, tap its sound, then look for +, Add new or From device and pick your file from Downloads. Menu names differ slightly by brand.
iPhone: download with the iPhone tab and add it as a ringtone. Your custom ringtones then show up in the Clock app under Alarm → Sound.
Questions
Will the alarm loop?
Yes. Phones repeat the alarm sound until you dismiss it. Fade out helps the loop sound smooth.
Can I use the same file as a ringtone?
Yes, an alarm MP3 works as a ringtone too. For calls, a shorter clip without the slow fade-in usually works better.
