How to set a custom ringtone on vivo & iQOO

vivo and iQOO phones (Funtouch OS or OriginOS) can use any MP3 as a ringtone from the ringtone settings. That includes vivo's Y, T, V and X series and iQOO's Z and Neo phones.

Set it on your vivo or iQOO

  1. Open Settings → Sound & vibration
  2. Tap Ringtone
  3. Tap Local (or Choose local ringtone)
  4. Pick your file from Downloads

Menu names can differ a little between phones and software versions.

Make your ringtone first

Before you start: make the ringtone

You need the ringtone as an audio file on your phone. Open the Android ringtone maker, pick a song or recording, trim it and tap Download. The MP3 lands in your Downloads folder, ready for the steps below.

Tips for vivo & iQOO

  • Look for Local or Local ringtone: on some versions it's at the top of the ringtone list.
  • Some versions also open the i Theme store: switch to the local option to use your own file.
  • Set the ringtone for each SIM if you use two.

i Theme or local file?

vivo's ringtone screen can show online tones from the i Theme app alongside the built-in ones. Your own file lives behind Local, Local ringtone or Custom, which opens the file picker. Pick Downloads and choose your FoneVibe MP3.

Newer vivo phones are moving from Funtouch OS to OriginOS. The menus look a little different, but the ringtone setting is still under Sound & vibration.

Stop i Manager removing your ringtone

vivo's i Manager cleanup can offer to clear old downloads. If your ringtone goes back to a built-in tone after a cleanup, the MP3 was probably deleted. Move it into the Ringtones folder with the File Manager's Move option and set it again: files there are kept as ringtones. Do the same for notification sounds, using the Notifications folder.

Notification sounds and alarms on vivo

Notifications: Settings → Sound & vibration → Notification sound (or Notifications), then choose a local file. A 1 to 3 second clip from the notification sound maker works best.

Alarm: open Clock, tap the alarm, tap Ringtone and choose a local file. Use the alarm tone maker for a gentle fade-in.

Silent and Do Not Disturb are in the control centre. Check them if calls stop ringing.

Ringtone not showing in the list?

  • Open the Files app → Downloads and check the file is there. Some browsers save to a folder called Download.
  • If the browser played the file instead of saving it, long-press the download and choose Download.
  • Close the ringtone list and open it again. Restarting the phone also makes it show up.
  • Rename the ringtone without emoji or special characters and download it again.
  • Still missing? Use your Files app's Move option to put the file in the Ringtones folder of your phone's internal storage. Android lists everything in that folder as a ringtone. For notification sounds, use the Notifications folder.

Questions

The list only shows online ringtones

Look for a Local tab or Local ringtone link on the same screen. That's where your downloaded files appear.

Is iQOO the same as vivo?

Yes. iQOO is a vivo brand and runs the same software, so the steps match.

Funtouch OS or OriginOS: which do I have?

Open Settings → System management → About phone (or Settings → About phone). The software name and version are listed there.

Can I set a ringtone for one contact?

Yes: open the contact and look for Ringtone, sometimes under Edit. See contact ringtones.
