Make the sound
- Choose your audio and pick a short moment, up to 15 seconds.
- Use the ±0.1 s buttons so the sound starts right away, without silence.
- Name it clearly, for example “Work email”, and tap Download.
Set it for all notifications
- Open Settings → Sound & vibration. On Samsung it's Sounds and vibration.
- Tap Default notification sound (Samsung: Notification sound).
- Tap +, Add or Choose local and pick your file from Downloads.
Set it for one app
Since Android 8, each app has its own notification categories, and each category can have its own sound. That means your bank, your family chat and your work email can all sound different.
- Open Settings → Apps and pick the app.
- Tap Notifications, then the category you want (for example “Messages”).
- Tap Sound and choose your file. If you don't see it, add it first with the steps above.
Questions
My file isn't in the list
Open the Files app → Downloads and check it's there, then close and reopen the sound list. Restarting the phone also makes new sounds appear.
Can I use one sound for WhatsApp only?
Yes. See our WhatsApp notification sound guide.
